Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions.
wau-miau is suitable for all pet owners in Switzerland and Liechtenstein who want to provide their dog or cat with the best medical care at all times.
wau-miau provides financial protection against the risk of rising veterinary care costs and enables your beloved pets to receive medical care at any time.
With wau-miau pet insurance, you can protect yourself from the financial risks of rising veterinary care costs and ensure that your beloved pets can receive medical care at any time – without having to compromise due to unexpected costs.
Dogs or cats older than 3 months can be included in the insurance. Once covered, your pet can remain insured for the rest of its life. A health examination is required in advance for animals aged 6 or older. We therefore kindly ask you to contact us by e-mail if you wish to insure an older animal.
You take out one insurance policy per pet. From the third animal onwards, wau-miau offers a pack discount of 10% per policy.
Unless otherwise stipulated, wau-miau is valid worldwide. In the case of an accident or illness, coverage abroad is limited to treatments during the first 60 days of a trip. Cover commences as soon as the insurance policy is issued, but only after expiry of the respective waiting period.
The contract is concluded for a period of 365 days and each year is tacitly renewed for a further year unless it is terminated by the policyholder 90 days before the end of the insurance period.
wau-miau is focused on the security needs of dog and cat owners. The Optima product includes health and accident insurance to cover most veterinary treatment costs incl. hereditary and breed diseases. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer are also covered. The following additional benefits complete the all-round cover: Euthanasia (putting to sleep), prescription special food and the lost & found service.
With wau-miau a free choice of vet is guaranteed. ERV recognizes practising vets with a federal diploma or therapists with an equivalent qualification. In addition, they need to belong to the following societies/associations:
Vets: Membership of the "Swiss Veterinary Society" (SVS)
Therapists: No special recognition required.
The costs of treatment are covered if its effect has been scientifically proven and documented.
These questions and answers do not include the entire wording or all the coverage, conditions and exclusions of the proposed insurance contracts. In each case the specific insurance contract and the General Conditions of Insurance (CGI) are decisive.
Due to rising healthcare costs in old age, the premium adjusts over the years. The premium is adjusted to the next highest age group when your pet reaches its third, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh birthday. Change per premium due date.
The waiting period is the period after the commencement of insurance during which no benefits are paid. The wau-miau policy has the following waiting periods:
a) Accident: 10 days after commencement of insurance
b) Illness: 30 days after commencement of insurance
d) Hereditary and/or breed-specific illnesses: 90 days after commencement of insurance
Further information on waiting periods can be found in our GCI.
