FAQ – Pet insurance

WHO IS WAU-MIAU PET INSURANCE SUITABLE FOR?
wau-miau is suitable for all pet owners in Switzerland who want to provide their dog or cat with the best medical care at all times.
IS THERE A NO-CLAIMS BONUS WITH WAU-MIAU?
No, there’s no no-claims bonus. The premiums have already been calculated in such a way that no further bonuses or discounts can be given.
Can I choose a vet, and which treatment is covered?
With wau-miau a free choice of vet is guaranteed. ERV recognizes practising vets with a federal diploma or therapists with an equivalent qualification. In addition, they need to belong to the following societies/associations:

Vets: Membership of the “Swiss Veterinary Society” (SVS)
Therapists: No special recognition required

The costs of treatment are only covered if its effect has been scientifically proven and documented.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HOUSE CAT AND A FREE-ROAMING CAT?
A house cat spends all its time in a flat or in areas that are not accessible to other cats (balcony, fenced garden, etc.), whereas a free-roaming cat not only spends time at home but also outdoors and is thus exposed to a wide variety of pathogens and dangers.
HOW CAN I INSURE SEVERAL DOGS OR CATS?
You take out one insurance policy per pet.
WHY PET INSURANCE?
wau-miau provides financial protection against the risk of rising veterinary care costs and enables your beloved pets to receive medical care at any time.
FROM WHEN AND UP TO WHAT AGE CAN I INSURE MY DOG OR CAT?
Dogs or cats over 3 months old can be included in the insurance. Once covered, your pet can remain insured for the rest of its life.
A special health examination is required for animals aged 6 or older. We therefore kindly ask you to contact us by e-mail if you wish to insure an older animal.
LEGAL INFORMATION
These questions and answers do not include the entire wording or all the coverage, conditions and exclusions of the proposed insurance contracts. In each case the specific insurance contract and the General Conditions of Insurance (CGI) E473 are decisive.
WHAT DOES ALL-ROUND COVER INCLUDE?
wau-miau is focused on the security needs of dog and cat owners. The new Optima product includes health and accident insurance to cover most veterinary treatment costs incl. hereditary and breed diseases. Chemo and radiation therapies for the treatment of cancer are also covered. The following additional benefits round off all-round cover: Euthanasia (putting to sleep), prescription special food and the lost & found service.
WHERE IS THE POLICY VALID AND FROM WHEN?
wau-miau is valid worldwide. Cover commences as soon as the insurance policy is issued.
FOR WHAT DURATION IS THE CONTRACT CONCLUDED?
The contract is concluded for a period of one year and each year is tacitly renewed for a further year unless it is terminated by the policyholder three months before the end of the insurance period.

FAQ Premium development and waiting period

HOW DOES THE PREMIUM DEVELOP OVER THE YEARS?
Due to rising healthcare costs in old age, the premium adjusts over the years. The premium is adjusted to the next highest age group when your pet reaches its third, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh birthday. Change per premium due date.
WAITING PERIOD – WHAT IS IT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The waiting period is the period of time after the commencement of insurance during which no benefits are paid. The wau-miau policy has the following waiting periods:

a) Accident: 10 days after commencement of insurance;
b) Illness: 30 days after commencement of insurance
c) Chronic illness: 90 days after commencement of insurance
d) Hereditary and/or breed-specific illnesses: 90 days after commencement of insurance

HOW ARE THE OFFERS FINANCED?
The wau-miau club offers are offered and financed exclusively by the cooperation partners in question and are not related to the insurance premiums.
HOW DO I BENEFIT FROM AN OFFER?
For each offer, there is a button that leads you to the relevant online ordering process on our cooperation partner’s website where you can enter the discount code sent to you with your premium invoice or by e-mail.
WHAT IS THE WAU-MIAU CLUB?
The wau-miau club is the customer club of wau-miau pet insurance. If you have wau-miau pet insurance, you are automatically a member of the wau-miau club and as such enjoy free benefits. The wau-miau club offers discounts and much more for pets. The offers apply to all our customers – regardless of the type of policy they have taken out with us.
HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
If you have wau-miau pet insurance, you are automatically a member of the wau-miau club free of charge. You can benefit from all the attractive offers at any time without being under any obligation.
